River City Escape Room Richmond

Literally one of the best escape rooms around! Jake the owner/our game master is the best. Someone who actually cares about your experience! The two rooms here I ve experienced are done very well. Would highly recommend anyone to give this place a chance

My husband and I did the Alice room and loved it! Weve done a lot of escape rooms and this is one of the more imaginative rooms. We liked that it wasnt just a bunch of locks like so many other rooms weve done. The room design was great with lots of variety and we loved all the puzzles. Would highly recommend this place for a fun time!

My Mom and I had a wonderful experience here! Rachel, our gamemaster, made everything great! Our group of two were able to escape the Sherlock Holmes room with her helpful clues. The room was clean and the puzzles were great. Would love to return and do the other rooms, they all look great! Update: We came back to do a second room, the Speakeasy room. It was huge and the puzzles were fantastic. River City has the best rooms Ive ever played. Creative clues, unique puzzles, and the best gamemaster ever, Rachel! She loves her job so much you cant help but have a great time with her enthusiasm! Well definitely be back again!

What a great time!! We did the newly opened Manhattan room and had a...wait for it....BLAST! I really loved how it was both time-period appropriate and had some cleverly done tech. Most of the game is very intuitive and several puzzles were cleverly hidden within the details of the game itself. We also adored Rachel, meeting owners/managers that are as as enthusiastic about Escape Games is always a good time! She was gracious, sweet, and sooo funny!! We cant wait for our next trip to Richmond, River City will surely see us again!!

This. Place. Is. So. Insanely. COOL! I had a LOT of fun here with my mother and my family for Mothers Day! We did the Alice In Wonderland themed escape room on medium/hard difficulty! It was really cool and an awesome experience! The escape rooms are made by hand by the workers, and there was such spectacular detail and hard work invested into it! They can adjust the difficulty based on whether youre doing well or not. We started off at medium difficulty but since we were whizzing through the room...
Read full review, they adjusted the difficulty to hard as we went through it. You also can ask for tips and talk to them through a microphone, and they can observe you through security cameras. Its all based on mental puzzles, so no physical puzzles. They made sure to tell us not to attempt to take ANYTHING apart. Once we finished, an employee let us dress up and pose with props, costumes, and signs and they took a group photo for us! Overall, a great experience that I REALLY recommend you check out! 5 out of 5 stars!

Escape rooms are our hobby and weve done 100+ of them at this point. River City is one of the best places weve ever visited. Rachel and Dennis were some of the best (perhaps *the* best) staff and GMs weve ever had the pleasure of working with and I can promise you well return to River City when were back in the area. We did three rooms: Alice in Wonderland, Innocent, and Sherlock Holmes Alice: What a wonderful concept! The room has no locks! No looking for keys or putting words into combo locks...

It was a little hard on me, being a bigger guy and there being a good bit of crawling, but this is in my top 5 of favorite rooms ever. Innocent: Its really rare that a room surprises us with the way it progresses - weve gotten pretty good at spotting hidden doors, etc. Not once, but TWICE this room surprised us. Its a hard room with a lot to do, so it kept us busy and on our toes the entire time. Sherlock: A visually beautiful room, but we never got the Sherlock vibe. Still, we had a great time with the room and the experience. Lots of interactivity and hands-on puzzles. At most any other establishment, this would be a flagship room, but at River City it was outshined by Innocent and Alice.

So fun and well done! We had a great time and will definitely return to try all the rooms. Love the waiting room too! Highly recommend.

It does not look like much from the outside or the lobby, but don t judge a book by it s cover, because this place is amazing!! I have done a lot of escape rooms in various states, and this one is one of my favorites. You can tell they took a lot of time creating these rooms and making cohesive clues, they were incredibly immersive. We did the Alice room and we will be coming back!

Absolutely fantastic room layout!! We chose River City based on the information about the room we found on their website. We chose the Manhattan room because of its description about ladders and physical requirements. We have done a few rooms in the past where we just solved good puzzle after good puzzle and we were looking for something out of the ordinary. This was it!! A great room layout and well deserving of the 4 on the hardness level. Plus our Gamemaster was amazing, she kept us on track and made us feel accomplished...even though I died and turned into a zombie. Next time we are in Richmond, we will definitely be trying another room.

Our family LOVED this for our 1st escape room experience! Shonda was our host & that gal radiates good vibes!! I cant say enough good things about her, or this place! The puzzles were fun & reminds me of can u escape apps. Decor was so good! WE ABSOLUTELY WILL BE RETURNING!! THANK YOU, RIVER CITY ESCAPE

Amazing place and very friendly staff. Amazing rooms and way the staff provides hints. A group a 4-6 is very ideal. Don t judge this place from outer appearance!!!!!

My girlfriend and I did the Alice in wonderland room, and had so much fun!! The theming of the room was great and the puzzles were challenging but not confusing. Jake is a great game host, we will definitely be back in the future to do Manhattan or clairvoyants conundrum!

We love doing Escape Rooms as team building exercises. These rooms did not disappoint. First scheduling is super easy. Completed online. We had great customer service. We recently played the Clairvoyant Room. It was definitely on the harder side but if you read EVERYTHING and pay attention our group of three made it out 8 minutes left with one clue. I would say room is on smaller side so our group of three was perfect. I like that it was unique, things I haven t seen or done before. I can t wait for the next room.

We did Clairvoyants Conundrum recently and the room is a disaster. The gags didnt work, some weird gemstone gag was a disaster even when the game master tried explaining it to us. We did not get a dedicated game master since only one worker was there. Nothing makes sense and there is no flow. They have added 15 minutes to this room but we left after 30 minutes because we have never played such a bad room. We liked RC rooms years ago but they arent putting the same detail in that they did at the beginning. We have completed over 100 rooms and this is the worst by far.

The River City escape rooms are some of the best in town! They have a consistent flow when it come to themes and activities. Along with the staff, very thorough and accommodating. I will definitely be visiting again and also shoutout to Brendan who was our game host, he made sure everything ran smoothly and was there with us every step of the way!

Alice in wonderland definitely made you think. Very cute room and had a good time. Only thing is some of the puzzles we had and it didn t acknowledge that it was complete so that didn t allow us to escape :) but all is well

Great room! We did Clairvoyants Conundrum. Love the vibe of the waiting room and the escape room as a whole. The first puzzle was a little vague for my preference but Id rather have a harder puzzle with a hint vs something too easy so I wasnt upset about it. (Unlimited hints, which is great imo, especially since you dont have to use them.) I (52) played this room with my husband (63) and my 10 year old daughter (49). Its a fairly cramped room so while myself and my daughter had no issues moving...

It makes sense why its recommended for 2-4 players, and my suggestion is if you are on the larger end or are claustrophobic, then to reduce the number of players. Overall we would absolutely do this room again and we will definitely be coming back to this location to try some of their other rooms!

Our family did Clairvoyants Conundrum over Thanksgiving weekend. We have done every escape room at this location and 79 rooms in total. This room was a total disaster. We never got a backstory about the room or an introduction. Almost every single puzzle didn t work. Things opened that shouldn t have, and the game master struggled to help us from there. The instructions for puzzles didn t make sense. There was no timer in the room, and we weren t given any warnings about our time. And then on top of everything, the room was too small for 4 people.

Great experience doing Manhattan today! Clues were helpful and room flowed so well. The game masters had great personalities and were wonderful people. Will definitely be returning to complete all the rooms!

Horrible experience. We booked online for Alice and Wonderland at 9:30. We got a call at 7:30 stating there was an issue and we couldn t do it any longer because there was an error with the system. Then he said the earliest he could get us into another room was at 8pm!!! Offered refund or a rescheduled time but it was our only kids free night so we had to cancel dinner plans. Do not book with this disorganized establishment

We have been to River City Escape room several times and have completed all of their rooms. Today we did the Clairvoyant room, and we were excited to try their newest room. As a group that has successfully completed over 50 escape rooms, we found this room to be seemingly impossible to complete without hints and the experience was extremely disappointing. The clues didn t flow from puzzle to puzzle, and the answers we finally figured out (with significant help) didn t make sense either...
Read full review. After the game, we asked the Gamemaster for some clarity on why certain answers to puzzles were the correct ones. They weren t sure - and when we asked why it wouldn t be a different answer based on what we solved, they shrugged and said this is just what the answer is but they weren t sure why. We also asked how a group was supposed to know what to do next based on what information was available. Again, they shrugged and suggested we ask for a hint for what to do next. We try not to ask for hints and only do when we re truly desperate. While it s disappointing when we don t escape from a room, it happens and we can move on. But what is extremely frustrating is not understanding why we couldn t solve the puzzle correctly, and how we should have moved forward to escape from the room. When we look back on the room, we wonder how we could have ever figured out how to do some of the things required to solve the room, and that isn t a fun way to leave an escape room. I would love to know the Escape Rate on this room (without hints). I wouldn t be surprised if it s impossible if you don t have any assistance.

Best Escape Room experience Ive had hands down. And Ive been to several. Staff very professional and VERY fun!. Will be definitely recommending this location to all my family and friends!

We did the Manhattan room with two adults and four teenagers. The room itself was nice, but the lobby and restrooms were lackluster and didn t feel very professional. The room layout was our favorite part. There was a lot to explore and we enjoyed the physical aspect. The props were great and lent to the 1940s era vibe. We only had two complaints. First, our particular hostess seemed bored with her job and we had a hard time hearing her instructions/clues both in person before the room...
Read full review started and during the game while she gave clues. We ve done rooms where the game master or host really get into the part and it creates a nice sense of anticipation. She just rattled off a memorized spiel and left us to our sleuthing. And the sound effects could have been louder. A few in our group missed important instructions because they were hard to hear. Second, when we completed the final task, we had no idea we had escaped and our hostess had to tell us we were done, so it was pretty anticlimactic. Based on other rooms we ve done at different escape rooms we expected there to be more. We finished in 38 min with 2 clues. The room itself felt super short compared to other rooms we ve done. I think a few more puzzles would have made the experience so much better. Overall, we had a decent time, despite feeling a bit let down, but will probably choose a different escape room next time.

Amazing place!! Definitely a great experience for me and my crew!! We had lots of fun! Had challenging moments ofcourse but overall a great time!! Will definitely come back for other rooms!!

We visited this weekend and did the Alice in wonderland themed room. I cannot speak highly enough of our host Rachel. She clearly knows her stuff and her heart is all in her job. She was spunky and engaging and incredibly knowledgeable. The room was SO much fun from the slide to the small doors and multiple levels! It was amazing! We have done multiple escape rooms and this one was the best! We will def be. back to try to some of the other rooms! THANK YOU RACHEL for making our experience such a blast.

Had a great time checking out Manhattan today! We didnt make it out in time, but were told we were only five minutes from doing so! Next time, well do better; well do it! Thanks to Matthew for being so pleasant and helpful during our time at RCE! We enjoyed outselves, and well be back!

Went here with a group of 6 for my husbands birthday and had a ton of fun. We did the Innocent room, and we were definitely challenged. The puzzles were creative and interesting, and there was the added twist of having to guess who the guilty character was. The employee/manager/(maybe owner) helping us was super passionate about the room and entertaining, and made the experience even more enjoyable. We ve done a lot of escape rooms, but she helped make this one stand out. Would recommend anyone to try this place out!!

We had such an amazing time trying to prove our innocence. The Innocence room was difficult but it was so much fun trying to escape.

My husband and I did the Alice in Wonderland Escape Room and we were so impressed by this room! We ve done about 5 escape rooms so and this has been one of our favorites. The decor and puzzles were so neat and we just had a blast. Lana was our guide and she was great too. Definitely will be recommending this place to family/ friends in the area!

Our group of 4 (me, fiancé, my parents) did the Innocent room today - it was really fun! Our game master chimed in when they could tell we were stumped and the guy who greeted us/led us out was super friendly and outgoing giving us more insight on other rooms to try. Really great Saturday afternoon activity and bonus - we ESCAPED!
