Gnome & Raven Richmond
He could almost hear the echoes of laughter and excited cheers, feel the triumphant high-fives exchanged as groups emerged victorious from Gnome & Raven's escape rooms. It wasn't just about the thrill of the clock ticking down, it was the way their "wizard-themed" room, for instance, transported people, turning a team-building exercise into a shared adventure. The reviews spoke of meticulous design and atmospheric details that went beyond simple decoration, creating immersive worlds. It was the palpable sense of accomplishment, the joy of deciphering intricate puzzles, and the shared stories that lingered long after the game ended, leaving players eager to return for another dose of the Gnome & Raven magic, to lose themselves in the "magic lamp" or brave the challenges of "The Tomb Ruins".

We did their wizard-themed room as a team building exercise and had a total blast doing it! Our game master was very friendly and would give us the tiniest nudges in the right direction without being overbearing which I loved. The design of the room was also super intricate and very atmospheric. We all agreed we want to come back to try their other rooms!
Took my partner there for a surprise date. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the room was amazing. We did the wizard one and the room was so well decorated, the props were all awesome, and the effects really just sent it over the top. We will be back to do the other rooms.
My husband and I did a room, the magic lamp, just the two of us. We did not make it out in time (cant win them all), but we had such a good time. The fact that we didnt make it out is actually a point in favor of Gnome and Raven, as it has invigorated our determination and showed us that selecting Advanced actually means something. We will totally be back.
We did The Tomb Ruins on intermediate with our 12 and 10 year old sons and had a blast! I would rate it more stars, if I could. Theming is excellent, puzzles are difficult, some moreso than others, but not overly hard to the point of frustration. Very cool effects, quite a few unexpected things (I cannot say much without risk of giving anything away). Our game master was amazing, really added to the experience. We did have a bit of difficulty understanding her over the speaker when in some...
of the rooms, though. We did manage to escape, with a few clues/tips from the Game Master and only 3 minutes to spare. COVID precaution wise, everyone was masked up (over noses) the whole time, hand sanitizer in convenient locations and you were encouraged to use it. We were the only customers there during our hour, we didnt see or hear anyone else, so I think we were anyway. I cannot speak as to how well they clean between customers/guests, because I wasnt present for that. However, everything did appear to have been freshly cleaned. Before we were even out the doors, we were already talking about coming back - and we will definitely go back! If youre looking for an escape room, definitely check out Gnome & Raven. If you havent tried an escape room, you should - theyre a lot of fun.
We have done 2 escape rooms here and they were fantastic! The themes are so well done and the staff gets really into character. Such a great way to have fun with friends and family, for sure!
Took my daughter and 3 of her friends to Shipwrecked for her 13th birthday. We all loved it! The clues were challenging but not impossible so we moved forward the whole time. The story and props are top notch! Ive been to 4 different escape rooms and this is one of the best. I highly recommend it.
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST ESCAPE ROOM EVER! Its so interactive and seriously realistic. Theres also different difficulty levels for ALL the rooms, not just one room for one level like most places! We did the tomb room but were definitely going back to do ALL OF THEM!
It was my first time experiencing an escape room, and we made it out. I enjoyed the atmosphere and mood created by the rooms design and music. Especially cool was the aftertaste of the experience I looked at everything as if I was still in the escape room.
This was the first escape room for both of us, and we had a perfect time! Its so fun to find clues, read between the lines, open locks, find more clues, open new rooms, and solve puzzles all while racing against the clock! 5 stars for showing us a perfect time!
We did a birthday party for our 10yo there and let me tell you - you havent lived until youve done an escape room with 10 10-year olds. The hosts were amazing - professional and patient, even when we broke something. Definitely recommend - the puzzles werent too difficult and the kids finished with 9 minutes to spare. I definitely recommend the birthday party.
This was the fourth time my family has been to Gnome & Raven. Theyre awesome. The guides always get into their roles to make it fun. The rooms are challenging, but not beyond the level of difficulty you select for the room. And the rooms themselves are really well designed. Even though weve now done all the different rooms, well be returning for the advanced versions of a couple of the rooms. I could not recommend G&R more.
Hosted my daughters 8th birthday party here and she LOVED it! The setup was great, puzzles were challenging but our Wizard host was excellent with helpful hints. Will definitely be back!
Gnome & Raven was a fun place to celebrate Fathers Day with my son and his family. We chose a difficult room but still managed to complete the adventure. The staff couldn t have been nicer, and gave up helpful advice.
Shipwrecked was awesome!! The room was well made and the puzzles were great! I ve done many escape rooms and game masters make or break the experience. A bad game master can leave much to be desired. The game master we had was AMAZING! They were in character the entire time and knew when to gently nudge the party. The perfect balance between friendly fun banter and help. I would highly recommend! Hopefully my family can make it back to play some more games
We had a great time today with our 9 and 12 year old. We did the magic lamp room and had a blast! We did intermediate which was good for the kids, apparently we were going a bit quick and they added some harder puzzles, so did get slowed down a bit. But both were happy we escaped and are begging to come back again. The rooms were beautifully decorated and the theme was on point. Was well maintained and good production value.
Great place to entertain teenage family members. The pirate themed room was fantastic and challenging for everyone. I would highly recommend this experience regardless of your skill level!
Great place for a kids party! The staff made it so fun the kids had a blast on the pirate adventure.
Our family of 4 all had such a fun time. They tailored the experience to our group with challenges our kids could tackle (ages 8 and 11) while also keeping it fun for the adults. The guides really got into their roles and we cant wait to go back again.
Experience was good in the details, and the management in some aspects, but I didnt have any fun at all. Most of that was because of two things: The group was way too big for one room. The people bringing us there, I was with a program that was using it for a team building type thing, were a bit at fault for asking for that many in one room, but Gnome and Raven is a bit more at fault for accepting that many and thinking everyone would be able to participate. Way too many cooks...
in the kitchen, and in the end I got to do absolutely nothing besides look through books for half an hour, which brings me to my next point, management issues. I dont know who did my room, maybe its the same lady managing the tomb raider one every time, but thats the one our group did. I found two books, thats the only thing no one else would touch because of the previous problem I mentioned, and I spent half an hour at least skimming and reading and trying different numbers as codes to locks, and the manager for our room decided to wait until the rest of the group showed a slight interest to tell us they were purely for decoration purposes. The fact non-blank books were even used is a problem in itself, that is definitely going to be seen as a potential clue, and it took the manager for our room half an hour at least to tell me I was being completely useless and incorrect (not literally) for the first half of the experience. The second half was problems with some of the people partially, but mostly too many people in the room, and I apparently wasnt fast enough to push someone else out for my place as a leader. I know at least a few other people had to deal with that. Perhaps the rest besides me and those other few people had fun, but this sucked for me, and the people here are at the majority of fault.
Tomb Ruins was a great choice for our 10 year old s birthday party! Spacious rooms, age appropriate clues, and loved that we got to eat pizza and cake right in the room. We ll definitely be back! Edited: we came back for his 11th birthday! The kids loved the Shipwrecked room. We did beginner level and everything was pretty straightforward - they re thinking of trying intermediate next year!
We ventured into the tomb ruins and it was a blast! We tackled the intermediate level, it gave us a run for our money. Were hooked and already planning our next daring escapade! Hoping to conquer even more cryptic challenges!
3 adults and 3 kids had a really great time checking out The Magic Lamp. It was our first escape room ever; Gnome and Raven set a very high bar for future escape adventures! Looking forward to returning next time I am in Richmond.
We had a wonderful experience at Gnome and Raven! We did the Magic Lamp intermediate level and finished with 11 minutes left. We did use one clue with four people. The staff were friendly and helpful. The puzzles all made sense and the facility was clean and creative. Would definitely recommend for a fun birthday party, double date night or girls night activity!
My son wanted to have a few friends for an escape room on his 10th birthday. After exploring the options out there, we ended up booking the Magic Lamp room at Gnome and Raven and he invited 3 of his friends to join him. They had a blast! I do escape rooms often and I can attest the room was really well done. The clues were well made, fun to solve, and set to an appropriate difficulty level for my son and his friends. The staff was also in character and very helpful in steering them when they wanted a clue to keep moving. Great place!
This is the second year weve had my kids birthday here. Fantastic place. The puzzles are fun, the atmosphere is well put together, and we have a blast! I highly recommend this as a group outing, or even a family adventure.
This was my first escape room! I played two more rooms at another place and this one was a bit more challenging. Thank you for a fun time with my friends!
I brought my daughter and her three friends for her 10th birthday. We did the Beginner level of the Shipwrecked room and all of the girls absolutely loved it. They had to ask for help a couple times and the clues were always very helpful without just giving the answer. It was just the right challenge level and was so fun! The rooms are well decorated and it feels very immersive. We will absolutely be coming back to do the other rooms!
My daughter s favorite birthday party location - 4 years in a row! Our tweens loved it! Well organized. Fun. Challenging, but doable. Each of the rooms is beautifully decorated, and each room has unique obstacles to overcome. The 90 minutes always go by so quickly, and all of the kids get into it, even the quieter ones. I love the looks in their faces when they uncover something exciting. Highly recommend Gnome & Raven to all!!
Im an escape room novice (this was my 2nd) but my wife and I went to Gnome and Raven with a couple of traveling escape room veterans - my sister and nephew. Our host was welcoming and a lot of fun. We did Shipwrecked and everyone had a great time. No spoilers here, but I can say that it exceeded our expectations. Ill be back some some family friends.
Our family had so much fun today! The room was really well decorated and everything went with the theme. I especially loved that it was our own private party. It was great to be able to solve the puzzles as a family and not have some strangers with us. Really well done and look forward to going back!
