Escapism: The Wizard's Lair & The Magician's Menagerie Escape Rooms Portland

Tried the magician s menagerie room for a teambuilder. We were 7 of us and managed to escape the room just in time. It was a very fun experience. Would recommend! There are a lot of puzzles and locks to be opened. Fun time.

This is one of the best rooms we have done. We have done 50+ rooms and this is in the top 5. It is super clever and very well made. Our game master was awesome. I would definitely recommend this room. It has a lot of unique components that I have never seen in any other room before.

We did the Wizard escape room here. The puzzles were good, but we had 8 people and the puzzles really had to be solved one by one. It left a lot of us standing around during most of the game, hopping in to do one puzzle apiece give or take. I can t imagine the max (12 people) even fitting in that room! If you do this, keep your group to around 4 people.

Super fun, the whole family enjoyed the experience even if we were 5 or so minutes away from finishing the room! It was close. Good room, fun puzzles, we will be back to try another!

We did Magicians Menagerie with Kyle as our game master. So much fun.

Some creative riddles and puzzles, but the immersion wasnt as good as some other places Ive been. The puzzles were a little bit linear without as many options to solve multiple puzzles at once which was kind of a bummer in a group of 5. Might be better with 2-3 people.

Amazing decoration and very nice puzzles. We played both rooms and we had a blast! Both game masters were very nice and they knew exactly how the room worked and were able to provide useful and interesting clues.

This was a super fun escape room! Sufficiently difficult but everything made sense and there were even some unique puzzles I d never seen. Kyle was our game master and he was awesome at setting the atmosphere. Definitely excited to checkout their other rooms

Had a great time doing The Wizards Lair! Kyle was an amazing guide, appreciate his commitment to his parts, definitely enhanced the immersion and feeling of role-playing. The room was challenging but never too frustrating, just dont be afraid to ask the Archimedes the Owl for hints.

Kyle was a fantastic guide! We did the Magicians themed room and had a blast as a group of 5. Finished in just over 52 minutes! We would love to return for other Escapism rooms.

We tried the hardest room and had a blast. Very well done and engaging, and definitely requires creative thinking. We will return for the other room!

We just did this super fun room with three generations of family ranging from age 10 to 74 over Thanksgiving weekend and we had a blast! Host Kyle set us up perfectly for success and made it attainable yet still challenging. There were enough clues right from the start that all nine of us were able to break up in teams to work on pieces of it, then come back together to see where everything fit into the bigger picture. We have done other Escapism rooms and every time is fantastic. We will be back for more!

We did the Wizard s Lair for my husbands birthday as a group of 8. 6/8 of us have done at least 5 other challenging escape rooms, generally enjoy puzzle games and have escaped all our rooms. This game is indeed challenging (we solved it in just over an hour. Kyle was gracious and let us finish since we were on the final puzzle). The first being that I guess the things are all on 30 minute timers and half way through Kyle had to come in and reset the stuff so the puzzles would work and our lights would stay on at the same time as one of of us were reading a clue. As a result of the distraction we missed some key stuff that would have helped us solve the puzzle we were on. We did eventually get it but only after we went back and reread and a few of the ones who missed it the first time were able to connect the dots from a previous step. Also took away from the ambiance/mood. The other issues had to do with special effects from puzzles not working/responding and I think it comes from a combo of they re due to be scrubbed after many many uses and maybe some stuff just needs to be updated/replaced as it s worn/breaking down. I don t wanna give spoilers here but happy to share privately so you guys can continue to thrive. Now for our host, Kyle. He s awesome! He really gets into character and does an excellent job with the immersive acting. You can tell he takes pride in his job and really added a fun element to the game from beginning to end. Thank you for a fun evening and birthday celebration. We will be back.

We did the Magician s Menagerie & had so much fun! We have done many escape rooms but this one had some very unique puzzles & clues! It was challenging, but not to the point where we didn t make it out with only 4 minutes to spare Take on the challenge!

My friend group and I did the Wizard s Lair, and managed to escape with just a few minutes to spare. The puzzles were satisfying to solve and had a good pace, and our gamemaster did a right proper job hosting from the second we walked in to when we left. My few comments concern some of the puzzles, for example one we were able to cheese by guessing and checking rather than solving it thoroughly. Read full review it through eventually. Another puzzle we had to guess on how to solve and ended up not finding the proper answer conventionally, but by guessing other possible lock combinations. One of the last puzzles had various clues to it hidden throughout the experience, but one of them was plain wrong and I m willing to provide details in private as I wish not to spoil the experience in this review. But overall the room delivered more than expected and the final puzzle was a very fun and satisfying conclusion to the room!

We tried the Wizards Lair for my sons birthday with 3 other friends. First off, the room is spectacular and huge, it was awesome. So much detail went into all of the puzzles and the host, Chris, was super fun and seemed to know just when we might need a little hint or guidance. We were not able to escape, but came close and had so much fun working the riddles together. I look forward to trying another room soon through this company. I would highly recommend, you will not be disappointed!

Escapism is really awesome! We have been to the Joy Ave location twice and had a super fun time trying to solve a great variety of puzzles and situations. They are very well planned and thought out. The place is clean and easy parking. Im hooked!

Our group did the Magicians Menagerie room & it was a lot of fun. I will say it was tough getting started & we did need A LOT of clues, but it was a great team building experience. Ultimately we did escape, with just about a minute left. Kyle, the host, was great. Would recommend for some quick fun.

very accommodating to a large group of college students!! the puzzle designs were just the right amount of challenging and very silly in the best way. we all had a great time - would definitely recommend!!

I give our experience in the magician room a 5/5. We had an amazing host (even for being new), enjoyed the puzzles, and the room content made sense, but still made us think. Coming from a very experienced group we did escape with plenty of time, but not to the point of where we were disappointed. We felt we got the perfect amount of help, and EVERYONE was able to solve atleast one thing. I would for sure recommend this room to beginners or to experienced groups. Read full review everyone can have fun in. Our experience in the wizard room was not as delightful as our experience in the magician room. I would be much less likely to recommend this room. I think the room was executed well and I did enjoy some of the puzzles, but there were other issues to contribute. Still truly enjoyed our experience with escapism though!

This is very fun! I brought 4 friends for our first ever escape room. It was very difficult for us, but then again we were pretty terrible at most of the puzzles. The wizards apprentice stayed in character the whole time. My only complaint is that though we were asked to arrive right on time, we were not let in the door on time. Definitely mind-bending good fun :)

I went with a group for my friends birthday and we had a blast! It was so involved, so fun, and it really did take some skill to complete, even with 7 of us. I didnt get the persons name who worked that particular Sunday but they were brilliant! They were really inviting and did a great job of setting up the scene, definitely adding to the whole experience. I highly recommend this location. I will point out that the building looks to be a repurposed house, so keep an eye out for the sign, youll miss it if youre not paying attention.

My friends and I had a great time at the Magicians escape room. The puzzles for the most part are pretty straight forward but a few were challenging (mostly from finding the right thing). The host was great, and helped us when we needed it. I cant say much more without giving anything away, but it was an awesome time and no complaints at all!

Wizards Lair is awesome! Very challenging, but I love how the puzzles and decor are very thematic. One puzzle was particularly hard (solved it on my second visit). This is one of my favorite rooms of the 12 Ive done. Magicians Menagerie is also really fun. More clever and unique puzzles and fun props. Solved it in exactly 60 minutes. Highly recommend both rooms, but preferably after you have done a couple others. Love them both!

My friends and I came down to Portland from Seattle to do 3 rooms with Escapism on June 24. We did the Wizards Lair as our second room. Overall this room was different then other escape rooms, but was really disappointed in this room. We heard it was one of the most challenging rooms in OR, as well as one of the best. Read full review missing and we spent 4-5 minutes wasting our time looking for items that weren t in the room. Talking with another friend about that final puzzle, I feel like we really missed out on some amazing things that should have happened. Another issue, was when we asked for hints, the speaker in the room was constantly cutting in and out and was super difficult to hear the responses from the employee. Also, it would sometimes take us asking a few times for a hint, before he responded. Overall Escapism rooms were fun, but was very disappointed in the Wizards Lair, especially when we called ahead to the manager and made plans for 3 rooms in one day, I would have preferred they make sure the employees reset the room properly and didn t seem like they didn t know what was going on. I would suggest doing other Escapism rooms before doing the Wizards Lair.

My wife and I have done more escape rooms than we can count all over the country and across the world. Although we often share positive experiences with friends, we rarely (shame on us) take the time to write a review. The wizard s apprentice Ryan was such a fantastic host that I was inspired to change that. His approach to setting the scene and preparing us for the room started from the moment he opened the door to let us in the building. His character and story telling ability set this escape...
Read full review room experience apart from the many others that we have done. The room did not disappoint. Although we were close, we did not escape, but it was not a frustrating experience because it wasn t impossible, no faulty equipment or technology, and very logical connections between puzzles and solutions. The story line was carried throughout and by the end I was believing in magic. Thank you Ryan for a memorable experience.

My wife and I, our 5 kids and 4 girlfriends took on the challenge of The Magicians Menagerie last Wednesday. We had a great time. Everyone has their own strength, and the puzzles test all sorts of puzzle solving abilities from being able to locate things from solving mathematical sequences. We thought that The Wizards Lair (we did that last year) was a little better, more challenging and more varied puzzles. But let me tell you that my family agrees on very little, but we all agree that the two Escape rooms here are fantastic!

Wow! Really challenging. Every time we thought we were close to finishing the task, we found more. Kids loved it. Very impressed with the amount of clues, the direction when we started getting off track, and all the liquids, writings, and locks! This was my first time participating in an escape event, but I can see why the kids all talk about it. Good clean fun that tests our IQ. Truly a great experience. We ll definitely be coming back.
