Escape on Purpose Durham

My family and I have done quite a few escape rooms all over the country and really enjoyed Terror on the Skies. The game master, Salem, was just great, the puzzles were difficult and the room is immersive. A fee things to improve: the 4 digitit locks is a bit repetitive. This room is calling out for different lock types. Directional, word, RFID... get a bit more creative. There are no audio effects. Adding audio could improve the immersion and also a sense of urgency, of which there was none. We will come back and do all the other rooms before the end of the summer.

Our host, Salem, was great but the escape room was seriously lacking. I ve visited many escape rooms across the country and this was by far my least favorite. The game (starship) was too digital and it felt like the whole group only had one puzzle to work on at any given moment. Some of the puzzles were just solved with button mashing and didn t require much critical thinking. Overall, I wouldn t recommend this establishment.

We really enjoyed the submarine escape here, even though we totally bombed it! The attendant was very helpful and attentive whenever we asked for clues. It was quite challenging because it went beyond just the usual puzzles and codes and involved a lot of submarine-related instructions.

This place went above and beyond expectations! The owners, Nancy and Howard, were so excited to help my boyfriend and I out with our first escape room experience. We did the Error in the Sky and finished with 10 seconds to spare! The set up was nicely done and we felt it was clear and concise on what we needed to do. We look forward to coming back for more!

What a fun experience! My husband and I went on a Saturday evening with another couple. Although we did not know what to expect, the experience exceeded anything we could have imagined. The moment we entered the room, it was evident that each persons problem-solving skills would complement the groups efforts. The staff was so nice and helped put us at ease since they were always there to give us a little boost if we asked. The room seemed mundane at first, but each clue discovery made it seem like the place kept expanding. We will be back with a little more courage and a better grasp on thinking logically and strategically in pursuit of escaping on purpose.

A fun time! We did (T)Error in the Sky. Most of us had never done an escape room before. We were a bit unorganized but escaped with 42 seconds left! All of us agreed that we will come back to do some of the other rooms. Don t miss this great adventure!

We took our office (Cary Family Eye Care) to Escape on Purpose for some team building and were thoroughly impressed! We split into 2 teams and each team did an escape room. Lots of fun, and great for building teamwork! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

What an amazing time! Not only was our host the sweetest but she was very good at her job, explained our mission well and in the end we ESCAPED! huge props to the owners as well for making such an amazing experience inside the room, it was exceptionally decorated and really made us feel like we were transported under water. We will be back to try our hand at the other rooms

We went to Escape on Purpose for a teambuilding offsite, and it was so much fun! When I picked Escape on Purpose, I did so because we could have some fun while supporting the charity of our choice (Wounded Warriors) and that made this day even better. AND, we escaped with 4 sec to spare. Whew! Id definitely come back and try another room. Great experience!

First of all- I hardly ever feel the need to leave a review. This experience was one of the best hours of my life. We had a 6 person group (including a 7 year old and 12 year old) and had an absolute blast in the uncommon room. There were fun surprises at every turn (and in every nook and cranny). With the help of the host (more on him in a moment) we were able to solve the room with a whopping 5 minutes to spare. Read full review ranged from intermediate/difficult to common sense. We all were able to spend time interacting with parts of the room and engaging with fun mechanisms and often hilarious (the slippers) red herrings. Of all of the wonderful parts of our time here, the one thing that stood out the most was the host. From the moment we walked into the building he made us feel so comfortable and truly welcomed. He spent the time to thoroughly explain the room and various mechanisms to us, and watched us dutifully and even gave us gentle (non spoiler) nudges when needed! After we completed the room- he spent the time to explain the story to us ( which I love!!! And didn t want to waste his time asking about) and allowing us to discuss parts of the room we enjoyed most. I really felt the love and pride he put into his space. This was my first experience with an escape room, and I am so glad we did it here. While standing in the parking lot out group we re arranging plans to come back and try other rooms at this location. I cannot stress enough how WONDERFUL our experience was, and I cannot WAIT to come back!! If you re on the fence about visiting, don t think twice, this is worth every penny and more!!!

We had a group of nine do the airplane room (Terror in the Skies) for a birthday. It was so fun and casual! Hints were unlimited, so even though the puzzles had enjoyable difficulty, we didnt stress out, and the room guide was supportive and funny!

This place was great. The staff came in on their day off to make sure our group was able to participate due to scheduling conflicts. They were incredibly kind and helpful. The uncommon room was a fun challenge and everyone enjoyed it. Thanks for a great experience.

My daughter chose here for her birthday. It was all of our first time. Staff was very helpful and explained everything and what to expect. We will definitely be back. We did the uncommon room and finished with 3:33 left! So much fun!!

Our second trip here, Escape on Purpose is so much fun!! Rooms are so well-thought out and keep any puzzle-lover on their toes! Owner and staff are very friendly, and spaces are very clean. Will definitely continue to support this business and gladly refer anyone here looking for a great time. Love that part of the proceeds go to charity as well!

Our large work group came here, and thoroughly enjoyed our time (14 people). We were split into two teams, and had such a fantastic time trying to escape . The puzzles were intricate, and though neither team made it out, we ALL had a really wonderful time. The owner was a gracious host, and we plan to return to try again. Definitely do it. It is a great value and a fun team event.

Went here for my sons birthday party and was very impressed. The charitable business model drew us in, but the people here sealed the deal. The (Un)common room was excellently designed with the right mix of challenges and pacing. Everyone on staff was extremely friendly and helpful, from our first phone conversation through to our tension-filled exit of the room. Looking forward to returning soon for another room!

We did the airplane themed room and it was so fun!! The staff explained everything well and the props were super cool. The puzzles were challenging but not impossible and the clues were well designed. Had such a fun time! Highly recommend!

Absolutely great experience! Staff was friendly, helpful, clear, detailed, and flexible. This was our first time trying an escape room (there were four of us and we chose the uncommon room ). We loved every minute of it and had a fantastic time. We will absolutely be going back to try the other rooms!

We brought 10 VERY excited girls to celebrate an 11th birthday. The staff were patient and kind, even granting them a few extra minutes so they could escape successfully. Thank you for a fun, memorable event!

Our family really enjoyed our time at Escape on Purpose. Check-in was really efficient and easy. Host got us in our room (Un-Common Room) and on our way. The puzzles were all challenging but not overly so though we did have to ask for a few hints. Room was well designed, clean and prepared. Experience was great end-to-end. There was a minor hitch with one of the props/clues but the owner fixed it quickly. Highly recommended...we will be back!

My friends and I absolutely love this place! We only have 1 more room left to go before we have completed them all! The rooms are SO impressive - It will literally feel like you are in a submarine/plane/starship. I almost cant even believe how thought out they are. TRY THIS PLACE!!

Such a great and fun experience! The staff facilitating our games did a great job. I especially appreciate the fact that Escape On Purpose accommodated a flexible schedule for our team-building event. The games were challenging with a wide range of difficulty. The first escape room experience for my team members, and they loved it. Highly recommend!

This was a great escape room experience! I went with my mom, sister, and 9 year old nephew, and we all had a lot of fun. There were lots of challenging and interesting puzzles to solve, and there was even an unexpected aspect of the room. The person who brought us to the room and gave us clues was so patient and helpful, and he even gave us a little extra time to escape. :) We all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would love to go back to try another room!

Our team was in the area for a team building planning session. Howard was phenomenal. He made us feel welcomed and capable. The airplane escape room was just what we needed to explore, communicate and work together highlighting each of our skill sets. I had one of the best times of my life. We started out rough and finished strong.
