Fortunes favor was pretty entertaining. Everyone in the group I went with has done a bunch of other escape rooms and we all had a good time. Our team really loved the hint system with its clarification and the standardization of rules to make it onto the leaderboard. Marcus was our game master and was great at explaining the room, game mechanics, and rules. Some issues we ran into were the legibility of the written notes and clues. I know that they wanted it to be old/worn but some of the clues...
were not particularly easy to read and (artfully) torn in a way that didn t line up with other parts making the message harder to read. The clues also had different handwriting with some being easier to read and others were very difficult to understand. There was a bunch of foam used to add texture but some of the foam had been picked at making it difficult to distinguish between the different symbols. The lobby was nice with chairs and games for waiting plus they had a few things for sale. One thing that took me by surprise was that you could bring all of your stuff into the room and I don t think they had lockers.
I went here with my boyfriend in mid November, and just got done booking a 2nd room with some friends. Jen was a wonderful operator, the room was fun and well made, (we did The Séance), and she let us ask a bunch of questions about the puzzles after solving the room. It was just the 2 of us with the flashlights only challenge - we barely escaped. I am happily coming again.
My 2 person party played the Seance room. Our game master was excellent, but what truly stood out was their innovative clue system. Its unlike anything Ive encountered in my 30+ escape room experiences. Its effective and adds a unique aspect to the game. I appreciated being provided a way to take notes. However, the room itself fell into the realm of the average. There were no particularly mind-blowing puzzles and the set design was run-of-the-mill. A few puzzle solutions seemed contrived. The linear...
structure of the puzzle progression limited our group to working on one puzzle at a time, which can be an issue for larger parties. One room had no lights, which is a common escape room tactic that I find frustrating. Wandering around with a flashlight and squinting in the dark is not a preferred experience.
This place was great. Our guide Elane had a great personality, very engaging, and funny. Would highly recommend for a family outing or friendly get together.
We made an appointment for The Heist because thats all that was available. It was our first time at an escape room, and we got there to find out we had chosen the most difficult room. There were only five of us, but we had an absolute blast! We enjoyed everything about this Escape Sacramento, from the customer service of the guides to the facility and the challenge. The location is perfect also, as we were about to enjoy dinner, drinks and free parking a block away at Easy on I. Fabulous evening all around! Thanks guys!
We had fun. The staff are friendly. We enjoyed it very much.
This was by far the most disappointing escape room business I have visited, and I have been to a lot of different ones. Firstly they share an extremely small parking lot with another business, and I was told Im at risk of being towed if I parked in their lot, so we had to find alternative parking multiple blocks away for $30. The employees dont immerse you into the room you are going into whatsoever, the clue system is just poor, and the design of the room looked like it was thrown together in a hurry. Its very unfortunate that I put my trust in this business for my wifes birthday. We will not be returning. If you are looking for a good escape room experience visit Enchambered. That is a real escape room business.
My whole group had such an awesome time figuring out the different types of puzzles and Nick did an amazing job explaining the rules of the game and I loved how he shared our story with our group. It gave the game alot of character and mysterious. I definitely would recommend going back again. Thank you nick for such an amazing experience. You deserve a raise!
My group and I had a wonderful experience here at Escape Sacramento. We played Seance as most in the group had only ever done one or two escape rooms before and it was so much fun! Our operator Nick was great in explaining the rules and the theme of the escape room as well as being so helpful in answering any questions we had at the end of the game. I cant wait for a chance to go back and visit to try the other rooms they have here. Would highly recommend!
This was my first time in and escape room and we had a blast! Marcus was a great lead, very good at telling us the back story whilst giving great directions. I will definitely be back.
This was hands down one of the most fun experiences!! My friends and I got together for my birthday & most of us had never done an escape room before - we chose Fortune s Favor (not realizing it was the most difficult one lol) but had an absolute blast all the way through. The game was so challenging & clever & we all can t wait to come back & try another. Nick was awesome as our game leader.
We had a great time! Weve done 20+ rooms and this one was very fun! Kaitlin was super friendly and on top of things as our game master. We look forward to returning!
Unfortunately, this review was long overdue. However, after a recent experience at a different escape room in the area, I decided to post a review detailing my experience. First off, I would like to mention that my group and I have done many escape rooms. Each one of us has done 20+. Our first escape room was Fortunes Favor, and it was incredible. The set, puzzles, and riddles were amazing. We even made it on the leaderboard! Our game master was a tall man with curly hair, and he was helpful. Because...
of this great experience, we decided to do the Crypt. Our experience for this game was horrible to say the least. The room was outdated, and the puzzles werent intriguing. However, we still were looking forward to it as the same game master we had for Fortunes Favor was there. We are doing the room, and for a solid 20 minutes, we cannot get past the puzzle at all. Having done so many escape rooms, we thought we were simply stuck. We simply would ask for guidance from the game master, but it wasnt necessarily helpful. We continue to the point of frustration, and we were then certain that there was something faulty with the room. It simply did not make sense. After 25 minutes of the 60 minutes spent, we request the game master to come in. He comes in and sees that there was a whole portion of the game missing. He did not set the room correctly. However, we understand that everyone is human and makes mistakes. We were understanding until he let us know that he would not extend the time nor give us a refund or even a partial refund. He made no effort to fix the issue although he was at fault. If you are someone who does escape rooms on your own time, you would understand how frustrating this situation is, so it shocking to me that he did not even attempt to reconcile. The mood after that went sour as we felt as if we were not given a fair shot at completing the room. Recently, our group had an experience at a different escape room in Rancho Cordova where the power went out in the building. Scarred from our last experience at Escape Sac, we thought we would have to pay having only completed 25% of the room. However, they were so accommodating. They gave us a full refund and even allowed us to continue completing the room. After that, my group and I reflected once again at our sour experience at Escape Sacramento and decided to post a review.
We had a party of 4 and did Seance yesterday. It was so fun and definitely challenging. We used clues but we escaped! The staff was friendly and made the experience great. I would like to send a special thank you to Jen for her superb customer service and kindness! We will be back!
We escaped Fortune s Favor with a few minutes to spare. Our crew was 4 veterans (2 adults and 2 youths), and 2 that were participating in their second room, and 1 that was doing his first escape room. We had such a great time. Everyone loved it We escaped The Seance a couple of years ag, also recommend this room. Escape Sacramento is very well done. Nick is an amazing GM. He has a great story telling voice. We are looking forward to returning to try The Crypt.
Red Door has a much higher production value, would recommend them instead. This one has mostly word/ number locks, less interactive objects. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Second time coming- we actually escaped this time! Nick was such a patient game master with our rowdy group. We may love him as much as the game!
Mom s birthday, had a great time! Marcus our operator was very helpful, but not too much, we didn t complete in the time allotted, but sooo close! Had fun!
I delayed writing a review of this place because I wanted to make sure I wasn t just frustrated in the moment. My team has done many escape rooms across the country, low tech and high tech, easy and difficult. It s been two months since we visited this escape room, and I ve had time to marinate on the things we experienced. I m going to do my best not to spoil or post answers. The first problem we encountered was when the door closed, and the automated story started playing. The volume was impossibly...
low. One of our party is hard of hearing and couldn t even hear that any audio was being played, we had to be quieter than a door mouse in order to be able to hear, and we still missed a clue. A transcript would have been nice. The good escape rooms that we ve been to all share something in common that this escape room doesn t. An actual person watching your gameplay and interacting with you. This escape room had a cool little machine instead of a GM. Like a little alarm clock. As you solve puzzles, you drop a token into the device so the clock knows where you are in the game. This also acts like a bookmark for how you get clues. To get a clue all players must insert their token into the machine, a neat concept in theory, until the clue/help you need is beyond the pre-programmed responses loaded into the machine. The problem with this interface is that it doesnt know how much of the puzzle you ve already solved and only gives you two generic clues and then the answer, which could just be a vague instruction of do (this) to (that). The machine does not have the capability to correct whatever it is that you re actually doing wrong. There was a puzzle in the game that we had solved, but the thing it unlocked wasn t triggering. As we had been trying for several minutes to get it to unlock, we decided to use a clue, only for the interface to tell us what we had already been doing. GM intervention could have helped us not waste time AND a clue, because a GM could see the problem we were having and nudge us over the edge. In the end, after we failed the room, we asked what went wrong and recreated our play for the GM apparently, we needed to line up an ILLEGIBLE word (which just looked like a sharpie scribble on a burlap bag to us) to a line on the wall. When I suggested they do something to make the words more legible, the GM said, We can t, because that would make the puzzle too easy to solve. I m sorry, what? You may as well print everything in Greek if you really want to challenge players. Speaking of bad puzzles, our room also had a scent puzzle, where you had to spray something and identify the smell to guess the word to unlock a lock. What we smelled was not the answer they were looking for, so we wasted another of our clues to get the answer. Also, gross; nothing like having to spray a musty mystery liquid in a closed room and spilling it on yourself with no way to clean up. I guess a labeled bottle would also have been too easy. I was flabbergasted when our game master flat-out told us that making the clues easier to read would make the puzzles too easy. I get that you want a room to be a challenge, but the average person should still be able to interpret what youre trying to do. The room itself mostly made sense until we got to the second room, then everything went completely off the rails. Nothing was linear after we opened the second room. Most escape rooms have clues that lead you to the next clue, at some point, this one abandoned all sense of story or plot. It was like stepping into a completely different game. The automated clues thing is a cool piece of technology, but at some point, you need human intervention, if only to say, You re on the right track, but you re doing this part wrong, Or, You ve got it, just wiggle this part a little bit to get it to work They touted this room as their hardest game, with the highest fail rate. We weren t out to prove it wrong, but we certainly did not expect it to be as random and as disjointed as it turned out to be.
Our family has been here 3 or 4 times over the past few years, we always have a blast with their fun and challenging rooms/puzzles. Staff has always been very nice and helpful, Nick was our most recent operator and he was outstanding!
This was our 2nd escape room at Escape Sacramento and our family was amazed at how much fun it was with our gamemasters Jen and Kaitlin. We were able to navigate The Seance with speedy results and the clues we needed were perfect for our escape. We will definitely be back to try the other rooms!
Paul was an amazing host and we will certainly be back! 10/10 recommend
I loved the uniqueness of the dynamic communication with the game master. Didn t like how you sometimes can t see how much time you have left. Bonus Tokens! Would recommend if you had more than 2 people.
Had a great time! Room was difficult but creative and really fun. Nick helped us throughout the whole thing and he was great to work with! We will definitely be back to try out their other rooms
We had such a great time! Nick was a delightful game operator. We had a group of 3 people attempting The Crypt and it was very challenging but fun! 10/10 will come again
Nick was a great game master was super engaged and helpful, loved his personality made things very fun! ,
Kaitlin was so sweet and welcoming! Super entertaining definitely would go again (:
We did Leland Conundrum - the outdoor escape experience. The concept was great and we enjoyed walking around downtown Sacramento and visiting some great landmarks. It should be noted that we were told that the total walking distance would be about 2 miles, and we walked almost 4 miles total. We didnt mind, but just be aware that you will be walking 4 miles if you do the whole thing. Also, the quality of the tools and materials that we were given was very poor and practically falling apart; please...
fix/update these. Also, and most importantly of all, the first challenge at the Firefighters Memorial needs to be reviewed by management as it does not match-up properly with the answer, and to make matters worse, one of the clues given was also wrong, so that made things even more confusing. This was an EXTREMELY frustrating way to start and set us way behind and caused us to distrust the rest of the challenges. That said, the rest of the challenges were all correctly laid out and generally fun, though not super challenging. The one at the Vietnam Memorial was the best challenge and had the most escape room riddle feel; the rest were more what you see is what you get. Again, the concept was great and we enjoyed the change of pace with the outside escape room, but this particular one needs to be reviewed, refreshed, and fixed by management.
Jen and her colleague ( I forgot his name) were both awesome, welcoming and knowledgeable! The rooms are clean, safe and set perfectly for an adventurous escape.
So much fun!!!! Josh & Sawyer couldnt be better hosts! Id say wed be coming back soon, but we had such a good time we did all three rooms so well have to wait until their new room opens. Thanks guys!!!
